  1. SHIPTRAP Control System : Project & PrototypingRef: C. Toader H.Brand and K. Popensiekerhttp://www-wnt.gsi.de/shiptrap/ • SHIPTRAP - Short Introduction • Control System - Project • Prototyping • Conclusions and Perspectives

  2. The SHIPTRAP Project Penning traps gas cell ion cooler & buncher Magnet (7T) extraction system

  3. 5. Darmstadt München Purification TRAP Measurement TRAP TOF BUNCHER MCS Gas Cell Extraction SHIPTRAP Device • Sequential Measurement Scenario • 1 Hz Synchronous Cycles • Maximum Flexibility/ INT. Choice LabView NT PC based BUS = OK !!! GPIB CAN RS + +

  6. GUI & DATA Pseudo-FAST SLOW PCI Ethernet : TCP/IP ISA / PCI Function Generator GPIB Pulse Pattern Generator RS232 GPIB CAN-Controller Vacuum control TOF/MCS DC Channels

  7. Buncher Prototype • RVC200-Balzers/Pressure Control • ACG-Edwards/Pressure Monitor • DS-345-Stanford/Freq. Generator • PPG100-B&H/Pulse pattern generator • ISEG-EHQ-F0xxy/DC-Power supply • All parameters can be saved and read from files! • Some parameters can be read directly from devices.

  8. ( Incomplete drawing !! ) Perspectives 1. The Instruments HAVE TO be controlled 2. Try to follow the NI recommendations

  9. SHIPTRAP Calendar • 25/08/99 - Kick-of the project : First Meeting between DVEE and SHIPTRAP group • 28/09/99 - Definition of prototype parameters for the RF Buncher • 14/12/99 Buncher Prototype is finished! ( > 80 % of the time on planning) • 17/06/00 Planned Prototype for The TRAPS

  10. Remarks • Good Points • It is a good base for developing DRIVERS for all the used devices. • The Prototype is actually in use for Systematic studies of transmission @ different DC; gases; pressures. • Project management procedure

  11. Problems Not enough operational experience with the devices No experience with the CAN BUS: written from scratch ! ( See ref. to the BUG 121) Project management procedure Remarks • Good Points • It is a good base for developing DRIVERS for all the used devices. • The Prototype is actually in use for Systematic studies of transmission @ different DC; gases; pressures. • Project management procedure
