Hearing versus Listening • Hearing is used to describe the physiological sensory process by which sound waves are received by the ears and transmitted to the brain. • Listening is used to describe a more complex physiological procedure that involves interpreting and understanding the significance of the sensory experience.

  8. HEARING the actual process of converting sound into signals the brain can understand.
