  1. What is a Degree Apprenticeship? ‘Degree Apprenticeships (DA) combine working with study, giving students the chance to gain work experience whilst achieving a full degree by the end of their apprenticeship.’

  2. Levels of apprenticeships

  3. Degree Apprenticeship facts • A Degree Apprenticeship can take anything from two to six years • Part company/ part University based • You will work for a minimum of 30 hours a week for 30 weeks a year • Your time spent studying will average at 20% across the year • Your time outside of work and classes will involve research and assignments • You will be visited a minimum of three times per year in your work place

  4. How much does it cost?

  5. The challenges • It is a big commitment • You need to meet the entry requirements • The application process is not straight forward • Finding the work/study and life balance • More time consuming than most degrees • You may have to commit to staying with the organisation for a certain period after you graduate

  6. The advantages • A degree level qualification whilst developing skills through on-the-job experience • You get paid! • No tuition fees, therefore, no loan required • A head start in your chosen profession • Quicker progression and promotion during your DA • Increased employment prospects after your DA • 90% of apprentices went straight into work or further training after they had completed their scheme

  7. What qualifications are required? Entry Requirements will vary between each DA. Most will require UCAS points either through A-Levels or BTEC, however there are some non-standard entry route’s for people who do not meet the qualification requirements, but who have relevant work experience. Applications will be considered on a case by case basis so it is important you contact the university to find out if your current qualifications/ work experience is sufficient to gain entry onto the DA course.
