  1. St. Rita School One-To-One Initiative • Who benefits from one-to-one? • What is the purpose? • When does this occur? • Where in the school will this occur? • Why Chromebooks? • How will students stay safe?

SRS Middle School One-to-One Timeline • Fall 2018: Middle School one-to-one Proposal to faculty, staff, parents (Parents Club and Advisory Board) • Nov. 2018: Staff PD, Google EDU (G Suite) Rollout • Pilot: Jan. 2019 5th (Sellers), 6th (Dickerson), and Adv 5th and 6th (Henderson) • English Language Arts (ELA) students will utilize a Chromebook which will remain in the students’ ELA class. • Fall 2019: One to One 5th grade - 8th grade • Every 5th-8th grader will have one designated Chromebook for their use. • Fall 2019: One cart of Chromebooks in 4th grade ELA WHEN WHO

  3. Why Chromebooks? WHY • Costs • Chromebooks are remarkably low in cost with full sized keyboards, touch screen, durable, and 360 hinge rotation. • No apps to buy • No software to purchase or load • Can work offline

  4. Why Chromebook? (cont’d) WHY • Easier to manage • It’s the internet-no image needed • Fewer “man hours” needed for IT staff to manage • Google Admin console allows for uncomplicated device Management • It’s a web browser so if something goes wrong, just restarting it fixes the problems.

  5. Why Chromebook? (cont’d) WHY • Very little training on the device needed • Our 5th and 6th graders have shown the ease of transition • Pilot teachers used a few “scavenger hunt” activitiesand students were amazed at the functionality of Chromebook

  11. Safety: Con’t • Robust Filter: In-House at St. Rita • GoGuardian: Content Filter, Monitor, Reporting • YouTube: Extremely Strict Filter • Only videos authorized by teachers and link shared are “viewable”

  12. Purpose of One-to-One What • Differentiation • 19 years into 21st Century • Real time ability to complete assignments • With Google Chrome login: can login on home “Chrome” and have same environment

  13. Purpose of One-to-One (con’t) What • Increase frequency and breadth of student technology use, typically for writing, Internet research, note-taking, completing assignments, and reading.

  14. 5th Grade Students delve into: Explore tool in Slides to help in research. Google Keep to record each site where they are researching to document and take notes

  16. 6th Grade First part of lesson: Students read through Shakespeare excerpt Student choice: • majority chose to listen to audio being read • a few wanted to read on their own

  17. 6th Grade Second part of lesson: Students discussed in small groups the Shakespeare excerpt while following discussion questions.
