Homework Guidelines for 3rd Graders at Jack Barnes Elementary

  1. Jack Barnes Elementary “The Pride” Team Cowden Families, Homework in our school is considered important and is recommended for all students. It’s important for students to begin to develop self-management skills and parental assistance can make a big difference. I do understand how little “family time” there seems to be in our busy world. The homework that is assigned is not intended to exceed 30-45 minutes nightly for 3rd graders.* If there is an occasional problem that arises, just let me know with a quick note in the agenda or an e-mail . Monday: Spelling– Begin to write your spelling words in ABC order. Stop when you are done with the first 10. Use the notebook at the back of your PRIDE binder. Reading - Read your AR chapter book for 15 minutes. Practice Page: Do your homework practice page. Vocabulary-match up your vocabulary puzzles, put them back in your baggie. Tuesday: Spelling – Finish writing your spelling words in ABC order. Use the notebook at the back of your PRIDE binder. Reading: Read your AR chapter book for 15 minutes. Vocabulary-match up your vocabulary puzzles, put them back in your baggie. Practice Page: Do your homework practice page Wednesday: Spelling - Write your spelling words using pyramids - (see example below) Reading – Read your AR chapter book for 15 minutes. Practice Page: Do your homework practice page. Thursday: Spelling – take a practice spelling test. Vocabulary – take a practice vocabulary test. Reading – Read your AR chapter book for 15 minutes.
