Mississippi Amendment on ‘Personhood’ Divides Christians Known as ‘Personhood’ law, Mississippi Amendment 26 asks Mississippians to define life as beginning at conception Would outlaw abortion (including in the cases of rape and incest) Unconstitutional because the Supreme Court ruled that abortion can be regulated or limited by states, but it cannot be banned completely If the bill does pass, it would be put into effect before the end of the year

G.O.P Talks of Limiting Tax Breaks Republican members of Congress met yesterday to consider a proposal that would raise revenue by limiting income tax deductions that mainly benefit higher-income households Republicans point to this proposal as evidence that they are willing to compromise and reduce the federal budget deficit, which has gone over $1.2 trillion Democrats are skeptical that this would lead to any agreement

There are 12 members of this panel (Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction) They have just over two weeks to present a plan that would reduce deficits by $1.2 trillion over 10 years If Congress doesn’t approve of the plan, the government will start making automatic cuts, beginning in 2013

Greece’s Next Prime Minister to be Announced Tuesday A new prime minister will be named today to replace George Papandreou European finance ministers have requested that Greece’s new government adhere to strict agreements already made by the outgoing government New elections will be held next February, most likely after a €130 billion bailout is put into effect

Occupy Riverside Turns for the Worse Police said that an Occupy Riverside crowd became aggressive when protesters were asked to remove tents from the city’s downtown mall City officials stated that no overnight camping was allowed, and the crowd agreed But 11 protesters were arrested Sunday, the most serious claim was an assault on a police officer

Man Pays off Mother’s 1954 Parking Ticket A parking ticket that was issued 57 years ago in southeastern Nebraska was finally paid off The fine was 10¢ Police Chief in York, Nebraska reported that a man walked into the station with the ticket, mounted and framed The man reported that he was looking through his mother’s things and wanted to “settle the debt”
