  1. Why God?

  2. From: The Catechism of the Catholic Church • We were created out of God’s love • In His own image – HOW? • Our desire for God is written in the human heart • We were created by God and for God • We have an unquenchable thirst for happiness • Only God can fulfill our deep cravings for happiness, truth, goodness, justice and love.

  3. What About Human Reason? • All religions agree that human reason cannot plumb the depths of the great mystery of God… • God’s ways are not our ways… • His thoughts are not our thoughts (Book of the Prophet Isaiah -- 55:8)

  4. What Is Divine Revelation? • REVELATION: means “unveiling” • God freely chose to step into human history to reveal His plan of salvation through the Hebrew and Christian bibles… • and the INCARNATION. (God taking on human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ.) • SALVATION HISTORY: The story of God’s saving activity in human history.

  5. What Is Divine Revelation (continued): • God also reveals Himself in the official teaching of the Church… • which resides in the Pope (the successor of St. Peter) and the bishops. • This is called the MAGISTERIUM (from the Latin word for “teacher.”
