  1. Egg Osmosis Experiment By Samantha Amante 8-73

  2. Purpose • To observe osmosis in a cell • Place eggs in vinegar to remove shell • Measure the weight and height using balance and measuring tape

  3. Purpose • After 24 hours of the eggs in vinegar place one in water • Place another egg in corn syrup • Weigh and measure the eggs like before

  4. Hypothesis Egg In Water I thought: • Weight would stay the same • Appearance of egg would look the same • Size of the egg would stay the same

  5. Hypothesis Egg In Corn Syrup I thought: • Weight would increase slightly • Colour of egg would change to light brown • The size of the egg would stay the same

  6. Materials We needed: • Eggs • Beakers • A balance • String

  7. Materials As well as: • Measuring Tape • Vinegar • Corn Syrup • Water

  8. Observations • After egg stayed in vinegar, shell was gone and was bouncy and squishy • 24 hours in corn syrup it looked deflated and demented • 24 hours in water it looked larger

  9. Conclusion • Water egg got larger, water moved into egg • Due to fact that the egg had a lower concentration • Water moved from higher concentration to lower concentration Egg in the water

  10. Conclusion • Corn syrup egg got smaller, water moved out of egg • Due to fact that egg had a higher concentration • Water moved from higher concentration to lower concentration Egg in corn syrup

  11. Conclusion • Weight and size wrong • Appearance was right • Weight got heavier, size got larger and appearance was the same • Weight, size and appearance wrong • Weight got lighter, size got smaller and appearance changed
