I had the privilege of shadowing David Bramley, an allocator at JCPenney, where I gained valuable insights into the role. An allocator's main goal is to maximize profit potential by managing merchandise assortments based on allocation objectives and seasonal selections made by buyers. This position requires close collaboration with merchandising, planning, distribution, and visual teams, as well as communication with stores. My experience highlighted the strategic nature of allocation in the retail industry and its impact on a business's success.
