  6. 1.4 SA SA • FACTS & FIGURES • Currently operating 106 retail stores in Hong Kong, 7 stores in Macau • Hong Kong Island: 27 stores • Kowloon: 44 stores • New Territories: 35 stores • Established in 1978, Sa Sa has grown from a 40 sq. ft. retail space to become today’s regional beauty enterprise and is now the largest cosmetics retail chain in Asia • Selling over 600 brands including their own-brands and exclusive products • A lot of Sa Sa’s products are parallel imports, they purchase goods from the overseas markets and sell at a cheaper price • VERDICT • A well known beauty chain for Chinese tourists but has a not so good local reputation: Sometimes the products they are selling are expired. Historically well known as parallel importers in the industry.

  7. 1.5 COLOURMIX • FACTS & FIGURES • Currently operating 70 stores in Hong Kong, 5 stores in Macau • Hong Kong Island: 11 stores • Kowloon: 30 stores • New Territories: 29 stores • Established in October 2004 • A member of Veeko Group, manufacture and wholesale ladies’ apparel under the brand name Veeko • Targeted young women and provide a diverse range of branded products, including skin care, perfumery, make-up, personal care and trendy items • Provide exclusive cosmetics brands, mainly from Switzerland, Italy, Japan and Korea (e.g. Swissmiracle, Coreana, The Face Shop, Naruko) • VERDICT • Reputation for parallel import same as SASA. Their primary target are Chinese tourists, not a common place to shop for cosmetics for the locals.

  8. 1.6 CR CARE • FACTS & FIGURES • Currently operating 73 stores in Hong Kong • Hong Kong Island: 13 stores • Kowloon: 25 stores • New Territories: 35 stores • A member of China Resources Enterprise Limited, same group as Pacific Coffee and Vanguard supermarket • Provides mainly health products and services • Specialize in bird’s nest, cordyceps, ginseng, vitamins, supplements, both Chinese and Western Medicine • VERDICT • As demand grows for personal care products, CR Care started to diverse into personal care products like moisturizer, hand cream, body lotion, lip balm, etc.

  9. 1.7 BONJOUR • FACTS & FIGURES • Currently operating 39 stores in Hong Kong, 3 stores in Macau • Hong Kong Island: 10 stores • Kowloon: 22 stores • New Territories: 7 stores • Established in 1991 and offers over 24,000 beauty and healthcare products, covering a broad range of items • A member of Bonjour Holdings Limited, who engaged in the retail and wholesale of beauty and healthcare products and the operation of beauty and health salons • Products are divided into five categories: skincare, make-up, fragrance, healthcare, hair care and personal care & accessories • VERDICT • Most of their branded cosmetics are from parallel import sources or grey market dealers. Gives impression of old and cheap parallel importers. However they are slowly undergoing rebranding as seen in the last photo, more modern formats similar to SASA and colourmix.

  10. 1.8 LOG-ON (CITY’SUPER) • FACTS & FIGURES • Currently operating 10 stores in Hong Kong • Hong Kong Island: 1 store • Kowloon: 5 stores • New Territories: 4 stores • Opened their first store in 1999 • A member of the City’super Group, a mega lifestyle specialty store • Selling products from around the world, from trendy stationery to fashion accessories, personal care items, kitchenware, photography items, gadgets, etc. • VERDICT • With their modern and comfortable shopping environment, Log-on is a popular shopping spot for young and trendy people. A place where the younger generation can find imported gadgets.

However human traffic is very low.
