Timeline for College SEPTEMBER • Pick 4 – 8 colleges (CFNC College Matching Asst.) • Create calendar for deadlines (completed w/counselor) • Plan visits to those colleges (see Ewing’s page for open house dates) • See if eligible for fee waivers • Register for SAT/ACT (links on Ewing’s webpage) • Make sure you have your CFNC login (set up with counselors)

  4. College Foundation ofNorth Carolina • CFNC.org • Free test prep • Explore majors, colleges  Take interest profile if not sure what you want to do! • Compare self to college profile (Are my grades and test scores comparable?) • Apply to NC Colleges/Universities FREE week of Nov. 10 - 14

OCTOBER • Prepare applications (available @ CFNC.org) • Create calendar for deadlines (completed w/counselor) • 10/4: Free SAT prep @ JFW by Sylvan • Application Workshop by Mr. Jones 10/30 @ 4 p.m. • Make sure you sent score reports to schools • Check out net price calculator • Make account on fastweb.com • NOVEMBER • Free application week 11/10 – 11/14 • ASVAB, 11/14 • Attend FA Workshop @ GCHS (11/18, 6:30 p.m.) • Seek reader for college essays • See Mrs. Frederick about transcripts

Timeline for College JANUARY - FEBRUARY • Submit FAFSA* For help, attend FAFSA workshop: • 2/24, 6 p.m., SGHS • 2/28, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., VGCC Main or Butner SECU • Last chance to register for SAT/ACT if wait listed • 2/7: Free ACT prep at GCHS by Sylvan MARCH – APRIL • Visit schools • Tell counselor when accepted • Prep for AP exams • College Redirect opens * Some schools also require PROFILE

NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER • Student athletes register junior year • Must register prior to making any official school visits or receiving a written offer of athletically-related financial aidhttp://www.eligibilitycenter.org • SGHS ATHLETIC website contains links and information regarding NCAA Eligibility • 2.3 GPA to clear

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION • Needed for most scholarships (see Mr. Jones’ webpage and Mrs. Ewing’s webpage for scholarship bulletin link) • Some college applications • Complete BRAG SHEET (counselor suite) • Give people plenty of time to complete recommendations (3 weeks if possible) • Give writer a “thank you” note
