Advantages… • Variety • With over 3,600 universities and 600 major courses of study, the higher education system in the U.S. has something for everyone. • If you are looking for an institution where you can study a particular field - no matter how unusual or specific - you can usually find several from which to choose in the United States
Advantages… • Flexibility • U.S. universities emphasize a broad, well-rounded education. You will focus on a major or field of study, but you will also take courses in languages, the sciences, the arts, history, and mathematics. • However, you, the student, choose which courses you want to take to meet these requirements. Colleges and universities generally offer a wide variety of available electives, allowing you to tailor your coursework to fit your needs and interests.

Internet research can help you narrow down your list. • Speak with colleges and universities in the U.S. about their academic programs and financial aid. • Visit the campus!! You can use a tourist visa to tour colleges and universities, giving you a better idea of what each one has to offer.
Apply for admission … • Admission forms and requirements can usually be found on college and university websites. • American colleges and universities often look at students as a whole person. Be sure to list community involvement, special talents and activities on your application.
Admissions … • IMPORTANT NOTE: The time frame for applying is very different than in Poland. Most colleges or universities require you to apply by January for admission to the fall semester of that year. Transfer students from other colleges or universities usually have until April to apply.
Once accepted, apply for your visa! • Refusals rates for Polish students applying to attend a college or university are very low • Applicants must present an acceptance form from the university and proof that they can pay the expenses. • All applicants must also show that they intend to return to Poland after their studies. • More information can be found on our website: http://poland.usembassy.gov
Go to the U.S., complete your education and obtain valuable work experience! • International students in a degree program (i.e. studying at a college or university) have the opportunity to stay for one year after graduation and work in a field related to their study. • It is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience and develop a network of professional contacts in the international marketplace.
