Rapid Growth of the U.S. Wind Power Industry Provides Opportunities for Nebraska Communities • Nebraska communities will have opportunities to attract jobs and investments related to the manufacture of wind power components. • Communities prepared to take advantage of these opportunities can expect to experience the greatest benefits.

Rapid Growth is Expected to Continue A recent study determined that U.S. wind power generating capacity could grow from 11.5 GW in 2006 to more than 300 GW in 2020; this is an average annual growth rate of 15.5% per year for the next 23 years, with total construction expenditures of almost $500 billion. NebraskaCenter of the U.S. Wind Industry • The United States Department of Energy has outlined a plan under which 20% of the U.S. energy mix could be derived from wind power by 2030. • Wind energy is the fastest-growing energy generation technology, expanding by 30% to 40% annually. • Commercial wind energy systems are currently installed in 34 states. • A 20% Wind Energy Scenario would support expansion of domestic manufacturing and related employment.
