Senior Project Overview Became a graduation requirement for the class of 2000 A student-driven project completed during the senior year in 12th grade English Designed to be a culminating activity Requires a partnership between school, home, and the community Is aligned to many of the English Language Arts California Content Standards Three of our comprehensive sites are Nationally Certified for Senior Project

  3. Senior Project BudgetDistrict level Support 2009-10 Personnel .93 FTE (One section per comprehensive site) $ 57,967 Release period for site Project Coordinator Print shop Handbook $ 8,980 Total District Funding$ 66,947

Senior Project BudgetSite Level Support Site funding contributions to Senior Project vary by site Site funding sources include SIP, grant dollars, general site funds, etc. Funded activities vary by site and can include: Plagiarism software such as Turnitin.com Substitutes provided for scoring or additional training Tutoring Duplicating

Options Keep the current funding – Senior Project remains as it is currently structured General fund support continues Site funds continue National Certification remains Eliminate the general funding support and eliminate Senior Project Requires a Board Policy revision to remove Senior Project as a graduation requirement Waive requirement for one year and revisit topic next year.

  6. Staff Recommendation Eliminate the general funding support and eliminate the Senior Project Complies with the Superintendent’s Budget Advisory Committee recommendations Requires Board Action Requires Board Policy revision to remove Senior Project as a graduation requirement
