  5. Characters & Settings Four words to describe Katniss are brave, determined, hot tempered, and loyal Four words to describe district 12 are poor, messy, industrial, and shabby

  6. More Setings Four words to describe the Capitol are flashy, neat, fancy, and pretentious. Four words to describe the Hunger Games arena are: enclosed, controlled environment, wilderness, and dangerous.

  7. Recommendation I would recommend this book to people who like action and man versus society books because it has a lot of action, adventure and the protagonist is against the government.

  8. Summary - Beginning The book opens with Katniss getting up on reaping day and going hunting with Gale. That afternoon when the tributes are picked, her sister, Prim, is chosen. Prim is only twelve years old and would have no chance of surviving the Hunger Games, so Katniss volunteers as tribute in her sister’s place. Peeta was chosen as the male tribute, but no one volunteered to take his place. So Katniss and Peeta will be the tributes that represent District 12 in the Hunger Games.

  9. Summary - Middle In the middle of the book, Katniss and Peeta are taken to the Capitol with their trainer Haymitch. While there, they train and prepare for the Hunger Games. Once the Hunger Games begin, Katniss quickly teams up with Rue. After about five days of being teamed up with Rue, Rue gets killed and Katniss makes her first kill.

  10. Summary - End The book ends with Katniss hearing that tributes from the same district can both win, so then she and Peeta team-up together. Since Peeta was badly injured, Katniss took care of him. After a while, they were the last two survivors. Then the government changed the rule, yet again, saying there could only be one Hunger Games winner. Katniss and Peeta each took a handful of deadly berries and were about to eat them at the same time so that there would be no winner. Except the government needed to have a winner, so then they said there could be two winners after all.

  11. Conclusions • Something I noticed about the writing was the author was very descriptive with the characters and how the story unfolded. • This book reminded me of “Lord of the Flies”. • My connection with the story is that I am pretty good with a bow and arrow and I like being out in the woods like Katniss .
