  2. What are Pearls? Pearls are produced within the soft tissue of a living shelled mollusk - a diverse animal group that includes gastropods, clams, mussels, oysters, and conchs. When shelled mollusk wants to protect itself against irritants, it secretes layers of lustrous nacre over irritants. Over time, these layers form a pearl. Basically, there are two primary types of pearls that exist in the world of genuine pearls - Natural Pearls and Cultured pearls.

  3. Both the pearls are real and authentic gemstones but their forming process is different. Natural Pearls vs Cultured Pearls Cultured Pearls Natural Pearls • Cultured pearls are produced within the soft tissue of a living oyster or mollusk that is formed through farming and harvesting. • On the other hand, Natural Pearls are naturally formed within the soft tissue of living mussels and oysters. • Cultured pearls require human assistance, care, and intervention to acquire. Pearl farmers raise the mollusks in pearl farms with conditions similar to nature. • Natural pearls don't require human care and intervention.

  4. Types of Cultured Pearls In the marketing of pearl jewelry, most pearls are cultured pearls because natural pearls are extremely rare and very expensive.
