  2. Homeostasis As the external environment changes the body needs to regulate the internal environment and maintain a steady state. Eg. Blood glucose, blood pH, body temp, oxygen levels, etc.

  3. Feedback systems Functions like a thermostat House temp. falls below 20, furnace turns on and warms it up House temp is above 25, AC turns on and cools it down Body is cold, shivers Body is hot, sweats and blood vessels dilate.

  4. Positive feedback loop When a receptor causes the integrator to produce a reaction that will cause more stimulation. Positive feedback loops are rare in the body.

  5. Negative Feedback Loop When the receptors trigger the integrator to produce chemicals in order to reduce the environmental stimulus.
