Boundaries can be physical, emotional, intellectual, time-based, material and others. The key is to identify your needs, values, and how they can be ensured in the best possible manner. Rigid boundaries prevent openness and vulnerability. While they may come from a place of protecting self from rejection and hurt by distancing others, it often leads to a lack of intimacy in relationships. Porous boundaries can lead to enmeshment of self with others. It may look like oversharing, emotional unloading, lack of assertiveness, and need to comply with others.
