  1. ALBERT BANDURA (1925-2021)

  2. Albert Bandura (1925-2021) was the David Starr Jordan Professor Emeritus of Social Science in Psychology at Stanford University. He was a major influence on the transition between behaviorism and cognitive psychology and contributed to the field of psychology in many ways for over 70 years. He proposed the Social Cognitive Theory that talked about human beings getting influenced by models they observe around them. These models could emerge out of a person’s daily interactions, experiences, and also media influences. This was another view of behavior as opposed to looking at it from the perspective of what was reinforced or has the consequences of punishment.

  3. Some of the real-life applications of this theory: -One must always consciously consume information that is all around us. Sometimes we do not realize what we pick up and incorporate in our understanding of the world and our behavior. -He had a refreshing belief that people are self- organizing, proactive, self-reflecting, and not just organisms who are reactive in nature or solely driven by unconscious desires. This means we must believe in our inherent capacity to be a better version of ourselves.

  4. - He talked about intrinsic reinforcement that is a type of internal reward system. These can be understood as factors that give someone a sense of satisfaction and pride. This can especially be applied in classroom settings wherein a lesson can be planned to encourage creativity and challenges that give a sense of accomplishment. -If observation is an important means for learning, then so are the basic elements that make someone’s observational skills better like a good attention span, retention ability, focus, and concentration. By recognizing that we learn from observation is also a lesson that we learn from other people’s experiences. Hope you find space for more active listening and inspiration!

  5. “Social systems that cultivate competencies, provide aidful resources, and allow ample room for self-directedness increase the chances that people will realize what they wish to become.”

  6. “People's beliefs about their abilities have a profound effect on those abilities. Ability is not a fixed property; there is a huge variability in how you perform.”

  7. “Some of the most important determinants of life paths arise through the most trivial of circumstances.”

  8. “Psychology cannot tell people how they ought to live their lives. It can, however, provide them with the means for effecting personal and social change.”

  9. “Accomplishment is socially judged by ill-defined criteria so that one has to rely on others to find out how one is doing.”
