  2. Recently room1 and 3 went to the botanical gardens for a topic trip and we learnt a lot of new things. We had to ask questions that we would want to know. We selected 10 questions and we had to answer them.

  3. What are the different ways of dispersal? • Dispersal is when the seeds are spread around and then the seed grows. Animal Dispersal: the animal dispersal works by the seed having a prickly outside and when the animal touches it, the seed sticks to the animal like Velcro and eventually falls off. Sometimes birds eat the seeds and then poo them out. And the poo helps them to grow. • Wind Dispersal: Works by the plant seeds being blown away by the wind. • There are also another way of dispersing the seeds when the plant explodes and the seeds are fired out and the seeds can travel at least 1-2 feet away. • Bibliography: http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/seed.html

  5. What is the difference between a fruit and vegetable? • The differences between a fruit and vegetables is that the fruit is actually the ovary of a plant and mostly have seeds. What do plants need to make food? • chlorophyll, a green part found in the leaves of plants, light (either natural sunlight, or from a light bulb) • carbon dioxide(a gas found in the air from people and animals breathing out.   7. What does the word pollination mean? Explain pollination. • Pollination means that the stigma collects the pollen of the bees and birds back and that pollen then feeds the seed in the ovary so that the seed can last a long time before they disperse. • Pollination starts what a pollinator (bee or bird) tries to collect nectar from a flower and the stamens stick pollen onto them then that pollinator goes to another flower and the stigma collects the pollen off the pollinators back and pollinates the seeds on the ovary.

  9. What is the wackiest plant I could find? • The wackiest plant I could find was the dragon fruit. When you cut it open it looks like cookies and cream. And the outside looks like a rose. also known as red Pitahaya, is a member of the Cactaceaefamily and comes from central America.

  10. How do you know how old a tree is? • To determine how old a tree is you must chop it down and count how many rings are in the trunk.
