  1. Plant Power Growing Things By: Briar

  2. In this power point you will learn about: • Adaptation • Pollination • Dispersal • Life cycle • And lots more

  3. http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/seed.html How can seeds absorb water? Flowers absorb water through the xylem, a tissue of thin tubes on the outside stem of plants. Its job is to take water and nutrients from the roots. The water molecules are attracted to the molecules in the xylem, helping to pull the water up. Solar energy also pulls the water up through the plant. The sun evaporates the water from the surface.

  4. http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/grow.html Where do plants come from? • Plants come from seeds. Each seed contains a tiny plant waiting for the right weather to germinate, or start to grow.

  5. http://theseedsite.co.uk/lifecycle.html Life Cycle Of A Plant

  6. What do plants need to make food? • Chlorophyll • Light • Carbon Dioxide • Water • Nutrients and Minerals

  7. http://theseedsite.co.uk/lifecycle.html Could we live without plants? • We cannot live without plants . Plants give us food, oxygen, shade, shelter, water and medicine. We need all these things to keep us alive

  8. http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/adapt.html What are plant adaptions? • Plants have adaptations to help them survive in different areas. These adaptations might make it very difficult for the plant to survive in a different place. This explains why certain plants are found in one area, but not in another. For example, you wouldn't see a cactus living in the Arctic.

  9. Different Adaptations Taiga Desert Grassland Deciduous forest Water Temperate Rain Forest Tundra Tropical Rain Forest

  10. http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/seed.html What are the different ways of dispersal? • Wind • Water • Animals • Some plants shoot out their seeds

  11. Connect Angels trumpet ( One of the most poisonous plants in NZ) Pitcher Plant (One of the most poisonous plants in the world

  12. http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/pollination.html What does the word Pollination mean? • Pollination is the transfer of pollen from a stamen to a pistil. Pollination starts the production of seeds.

  13. Connect A Honey bee Weighs One tenth Of a gram A Wasp weighs 90 milligrams

  14. http://ask.yahoo.com/20010411.html What’s the difference between a fruit and a vegetable? • A fruit is a sweet and fleshy product. The fruit holds seeds inside them, and those seeds then develop into new plants. • A vegetable is edible anywhere on the plant and does not have any seeds.

  15. Including:

  16. http://biology.clc.uc.edu/courses/bio104/photosyn.htm Photosynthesis • Photosynthesis is a process in plants to make their food. • In this process six water molecules mix with six carbon molecules to form, oxygen and glucose (food for plants)

  17. Connect The Kahikatea Tree (The tallest tree in NZ) This tree can go into the Redwood 2 times The redwood Tree (The tallest tree in the World) 112.47 m 60m

  18. Hope You Enjoyed This Power Point And Learnt something new about plants
