  2. Independent Reading 2-21 • Read the rest of “Moving Day.” • Fill in your graphic organizer with events from the story. Remember to put them in order. • Read silently when you finish, but leave your notebook open on your desk.

  3. Writer’s Workshop 2-21 • Make a 3-column chart in your writer’s notebook. Copy down the singular words and then make them plural.

  4. Word Study 2-22 • Read the story “Choosing a Pet” on page 239 in your horse book independently. • Find the meanings of the following words (write them in your word study notebook): adorable, iguana, mature, trophies, compassionate, mention, exactly. • If you are able to find the definition using context clues, put a ‘C’ by the word. • If you cannot find the definition from the story, look up the word in the dictionary and write down its meaning. • Read silently when you finish. Leave your notebook open.

  5. Independent Reading 2-22 1. Read pages 300-303 of “Jalapeno Bagels” independently. 2. Create a graphic organizer that shows the sequence of how to make empanadas de calabaza. You may need more squares. 3. Read silently when you finish.

  6. Word Study 2-23 Day 29 Listen to the vowel sound in the following words. What letter do you hear? Veil Long a Height Long I Ceiling Long e

  7. Make a 3-column chart in your word study notebook that looks like the one below:

  9. Independent Reading Part 1 2-23 Day 29 • Read pages 304-309 in Jalapeno Bagels. • Fill in a graphic organizer that shows the sequence of making jalapeno bagels. 3. When you finish, think about what happened in the story in the beginning, the middle, and the end. 4. Read your own book silently when you finish.

Independent Reading Part 2 2-23 Day 29 • Fill in your flip book with a summary of the beginning, middle and end. • Draw a simple sketch for each section if you would like. • Make sure your name in on your flip book. • Turn your flip book in to the red tray by the door. • Read your own book silently when you finish.

  11. Word Study 2-24 Day 30 • Find the 3-column chart from yesterday. • Read pages 290 and 291 in your cow book. • As you find words with eigh or ei, add them to the correct column in your notebook based on the vowel sound you hear. • Choose four words from your chart. Use each one in a sentence. • Read silently when you finish.
