  1. 5 Hip New Reasons To Recycle • You have options: there are 532 recycling companies in North Carolina; 84 recycle paper • We reuse materials locally - when you recycle a plastic bottle in NC, it is probably made back into a soda bottle in NC and resold at a store near you • You create jobs - incinerating 10,000 tons of waste creates 1 job, land filling the same amount creates 6 jobs, recycling the same 10,000 tons creates 35 jobs. • It’s the “in” thing to do - of reporting agencies in the last recycling report (2001), 57% had a recycling education program and 83% had a designated recycling coordinator. • Assistance is available for you

  14. DPPEA is in the development phase of RE3, a social marketing based recycling campaign geared at the 20-something recycler. With posters, television commercials, cinema ads, a 4-minute Flash film, and an interactive website, RE3 will aid NC local governments in their waste reduction participation efforts. Kickoff events will be held during the summer of 2005 and will include activities at various street festivals across the state as well as at least five workshops for environmental educators and recycling coordinators to collect RE3 materials and learn outreach techniques.
