Norwegian standardization efforts on mobile ticketing i public transport • Norwegian standardization on electronic ticketing in public transport is governed by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications, delegated to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration • A national workgroup on mobile ticketing was established in September 2011. A few banks were invited to participate • Result: HB206 , part 25 – Electronic Ticketing on Mobile Phones and Appendices

Mobile ticketing challenges, seen from the outside • Legacy electronic ticketing solutions are not easily migrated to mobile • Often based on proprietary and licensed technologies like MIFARE and CALYPSO • Mobile requires open and standardized solutions • Provisioning and management of mobile, smart card based solutions requires heavy investments in infrastructure (TSM etc.) • Legacy electronic ticketing solutions deployed for mobile doesn’t really solve the problem for sporadic travelers and tourists • “New” solutions like mobile ticketing apps is currently fragmented • Not well suited for travelling across multiple PTA domains • Not well suited for tourists
