Junior Certificate School Programme

The Junior Certificate School Programme (JCSP) provides schools with a framework to ensure students have positive experiences and achieve success in the Junior Certificate examination. This program includes elements such as teaching teams, early intervention, profiling, celebrations, active learning, literacy and numeracy strategies, initiatives, and involvement of parents. Evidence suggests that JCSP improves student motivation, attitudes, and literacy and numeracy skills. It also introduces innovative initiatives in schools. Evaluation shows enhanced attendance, motivation, literacy and numeracy achievements, social skills, and performance in the Junior Certificate exam.

  4. The Programme provides schools with a framework to ensure students enjoy positive experiences of the Junior Certificate through a creative, achievable, broad-based curriculum and go on to achieve success in the Junior Certificate examination.

  13. The student receives an individualised student profile of skills, knowledge and achievement covering a broad range of personal and social skills in addition to academic achievements. The process of preparing for this student profile is at the heart of the JCSP. Evaluation: Building on Success

  14. Student Folders Each student has a folder containing: • A copy of the statements they are working on where they track their own progress with the help of the teacher. • Photos. • Best work. This is a folder to be proud of which is shown to their parents at every opportunity.

  17. Success The JCSP is successful at engaging the majority of students and hence at encouraging them to continue with their schooling. The nature and structure of the Programme including its many initiatives coupled with the implementation by schools of positive discipline programmes, generally succeeds at motivating students and fosters in them a positives attitude to their schooling.
