SPS ring • SPS in Vertical • realignment of the « hole » in sextant 5 and 6 • From the passage of the LHC tunnel below SPS • Has been realignedseveral times • Requestfrom the OP team • Problems/consequences • Beginning of the TT60/TI2 line that has to becorrectedaccordingly • Many services concerned (VSC, transport, magnet, etc…) • Extra workestimated to 2 months for SU only IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  6. SPS ring • in Horizontal • Survey of the quads (it has not been donesince 2005) • Realignment of dipoles and intermediate components to bedonealso IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  7. TI2 • Tilt and Vertical of quads done in TS 2011-2012 • 50% of quads realigned > becoming an unstable area • Proposal for LS1 • Quads in V and T : 1.5 month • Realign the TT60 if SPS isrealigned IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  9. TI2 • in H • Quads have not been measuredsince the first alignment/smoothing in 2006-2007 • Proposal for LS1 • Remeasure and realign quads • Hope mvtwillbesmall and that the others components will not have to berealigned IEFC, March 7-9 2012

TI8 • TI8 is a veryunstable area • A tilt and vertical surveyisdoneateachwinter TS • Last year 80% of the quads wererealigned in T and V • This year H measurementsweredoneat the bottom of the line > displacements of 2 mm found • Proposal • a full survey in T, V and H of all components not only quads • Estimated time : 5 months IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  12. CNGS • TT41 is a also an unstable area • V and T surveydone for some portions in 2010 and 2011 upon OP request > misalignments of 2mm found and corrected • H surveydone on five halfcells in 2012 misalignments of 2mm found and corrected • Proposal for LS1 : Nothing up to now IEFC, March 7-9 2012

SPS transferlines • TT10 • T+V+R surveydone in 2007-2008 > significantimprovement of the beam • Proposal for LS1 : Redo the sameoperation • 3 months • TT20 • Survey in T + V for some quads done in 2008-2009 • Proposal for LS1 : full survey of all the components but with a lowpriority • 3 months IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  14. PS Ring • Last Survey of main magnets in T, V and H in 2005 • Proposal for LS1 : as requested by ABP and OP to redo full survey IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  15. PS Booster • Last Survey in T, V and H in 2008 • Proposal for LS1 : as requested by OP, measurement and realignment of quads and dipoles IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  16. PS transferlines • TT2/FT16 • Survey in T, V and H of the quads • BTM, BTY, BT, BI and FTA • Survey and alignment of all components • BI willbedone in the frame of the LIU project IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  17. Linac4 • Linac4 : • Important delay • For manufacturing of components • For installation : supporting jacks will not betherebeforeseptember • Fiducialisation and alignmentwill place in 2013 and 2014 whichwas not expected • Fiducialisation • Alignment IEFC, March 7-9 2012

Manpower/Planning • Most of the fieldworkisdone by a Manpower contractunder the supervision of CERN staff • Contract people canbeincreasedrathereasily • Preparation , Supervision, Coordination, data post processing, qualitychecks are done by CERN staff • SU wouldlike to do the major part of the injectorworks in 2013 because of heavyworkload in LHC from sept 2013 to mid 2014 IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  20. Time estimation • Total of 24 months • Manpower : 4 FTE over 15 months/supervision by staff willbe a bit difficult IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  21. Time estimate • Total of 9.5 months for CPS • For L4 the problemwillbe the supervision of the contract team • 1 person to beallocatedat 100% duringthisperiod IEFC, March 7-9 2012

  22. Conclusions • Hugeamount of work to bedoneduring LS1 • It shouldbe possible to include all the activitieswith the 15months of shut-down from the planning point of view • Decision has to betaken on the realignment of sext5-6 of SPS • L4 delay of component readynessis not favorable at all for SU • 1 personmissing to supervise the contract team for L4 because of heavyworkload • The survey of the injectorsisonly a piece of the puzzle for LS1 IEFC, March 7-9 2012
