  1. Stations April 10th-13th

  2. Project Overview Now that the students have become “master mappers,” they will begin learning about plants. Throughout their plant study, our class will learn about plants native to Columbus, IN. The class will then connect the plants to the map located on the 2nd floor at CSA-Lincoln. Our class has also applied for a grant to fund landscaping a section at Puddles 2 Park. We will visit Schneider Nursery for a field trip. Our 4th graders are working to make an interactive map on the history of Columbus, using the map located in our building. Our class will submit their findings about native plants to report on the map.

Skills and Standards 2.1.6- Read aloud fluently and accurately 2.4.1- Identify and describe plant features 2.4.3- Recognize plant needs 2.2.3- Author’s Purpose Reading:Dig, Wait, Listen Noise Level 1 • Tuesday • Discuss the Talk About It on page 160 in your Treasures Book. Then, read The Coatis of the Sonora Desert to learn your new vocabulary words. • Begin reading, Dig, Wiat, Listen: a Desert Toad’s Tale by April Pulley Sayre on page 164with your partner. • Wednesday • Finish reading Dig, Wait, Listen with your partner. Thursday Complete the comprehension activity for the story and check your plants in the greenhouse. • Friday Complete and turn in your comprehension packet. Be sure your plants in the green house have been watered for the long weekend! • Materials Needed • Treasure Books • Greenhouse and plants • Plant Packet Project Connection: Plants What will happen if… I don’t get it. Writing: Plant Parts Skills and Standards 2.4.1- Identify and describe plant features 2.4.3- Recognize plant needs 2.5.2- Write a brief description of a familiar object 2.3.3- Compare/ Contrast Compare/ Contrast • First, choose your favorite plant. • Next, fill in the Venn Diagram to compare yourself to your favorite plant. • Then, write 1-3 paragraphs that tell how you and your favorite plant are alike and different. • Use the rubric to assess your writing. • Materials Needed • Plant List • Venn Diagram • Paper/ Pencil • Computer for final draft Project Connection: Plant Parts and Needs Home

Self-Selected Reading / Accelerated Reader Skills and Standards 2.1.6- Read fluently 2.2.5- Restate facts and recall information SSR and AR points Noise Level 0 • Choose a library book or a book of choice that you have not read. • Be sure you picked a book that you can read alone. • Silently read . • After you finish your book, write the name of the book in your Data Binder. • Be sure to fill in the information about your book in your binder. • If you can answer all the questions in your Data Binder, get your laptop and log on to AR to take your test. • Record your AR score in your Data Binder. . • Materials Needed • Data binder • Book of choice • Computer What will happen if… I don’t get it.
