  1. Biography of Vicente Carducho • By Eunice Ghil

  2. Basic information • vicente carducho was born in 1568 in Florence, italy. • his brother was an artist who worked for king Philip ii of spain, and from him, he learned how to paint and draw. • Vicente carducho took his brother’s place after he died, and painted a history of achilles. When he was done, he worked for four years for the monks of the Chartreuse of Paular, and he decorated their monastery with historical figures. • he was a royal painter, but after diego Velázquez arrived in 1623, he, along with other painters, were overshadowed by the younger artist. • vincente carducho passed away in 1638 in madrid.

  3. accomplishments • vicente carducho is best known for his contributions to Spanish art theory. His book Diálogos de la Pintura(1633) wrote of Michelangelo and the Italian tradition while defending painting as a noble pursuit.

  4. qualities • he was very religious. many of his paintings and works of art were based on historical figures and the bible. • in his book, he called Caravaggio a "monster of genius and talent," "Anti-Michelangelo" and "Anti-Christ."

  5. my choice • i think vicente carducho is very interesting because he wrote a book that criticized that extremely, strict naturalistic nature of such like velasquez.

  6. conclusion • vicente carducho was born in florence, italy, and he was a royal painter, succeeding his older brother. He was overshadowed later on by the one and only diego velasquez. • i chose this person because he is really interesting. he was overshadowed by diego velasquez, and he also wrote about other artists of his day.
