  2. Broadening Strand Definition • A Broadening Strand is: • ‘A co-ordinated and structured series of related elective modules allowing sustained exploration of a specific subject, issue or skill which lies beyond the primary disciplinary content of a student’s programme.’

  3. Broadening Strands - Features • Cross-cut traditional disciplinary boundaries • Fuzzily bounded to allow overlaps • Individual modules (or groups of modules) may appear in more than one strand • Progression within and between strands
