From Last Year -1 • AMA data confirmed that about 950 alumni in the USA • Many are in Academia, Clinical Practice, Research in pharmaceuticals and medical devices, Clinical practiceand Administrators. • Of the 950 alumni, less than 100 have been involved in ICOMAA activities since inception. • General lackadaisical attitude to ICOMAA

  3. Before Current Term • Individual Alumnus stopping by to give Grand rounds/lectures. • Different Classes contributing projects. • ICOMAA-NA training trainers and providers for ACLS. • ICOMAA-NA liaising with ICOMAA world wide • Annual meeting not well attended except when a VIP is visiting.

Where We Want To Be • Enabling Environment for Alumni to Network, Collaborate and Co-operate with each other • Enabling Environment to help Alumni get directly involved in helping our Alma Mater • Harness the resources of Alumni as one entity to help other alumni and our Alma Mater • Increase membership participation in ICOMAA-NA activities

  5. What Was Promised • Encourage effective Participation by Alumni • Revisiting CPRTraining • Completion of Specific Projects requested by the College • Alumni Visiting Fellowship • National Collective Academy (NICA)

Encouraging Participation • Membership fee asoptional $10 Annually • Contacted All Alumni e.g. sending Christmas cards • Effective Social Media including LinkedIn, Listserv • Involvement in Activities of Members and showcasing achievements of member. • Website listing members • Donations from members

  7. CPRTraining • CPR training at the college from January 27, 2014 through February , 2014. • Training provided for BLS providers, BLS Instructors, 30 ACLS providers and 26 ACLS instructors. • Budgeted$15,000 but only $8843.80 spent based on DIY. • College as AHA Center restored

  8. CPR Numbers • BLS providers =118 • 46 BLS Instructors = 46 • ACLS Providers = 30 • ACLS Instructors = 26 • Total Numbers = 220 trained. • AHA issue certificates awarded as against local certificates

CPR Costs • Training equipment = $3768.10 • Flight Tkts($803.90x3) = $2411.70 (does not include my personal cost) • AHA certificates (96 BLS @$7 each and 60 ACLS @$10 each) = $1272.00 • Nigerian entry Visa x3 @439 each = $1317.00 • Excess luggage = $75.00 • Total cost = $8843.80 • No cost to ICOMAA for my trip or welfare of the 3 trainers.

  13. College Projects • AdeolaOdutola Complex – a donation from late Chief AdeolaOdutola of Ijebu Ode. Potentially a Private Faculty Practice that Alumni can be involved and an Alternative to Oluyoro. • Clinical Stimulation Laboratory – similar to flight stimulator and needed in training medical students. • Contact was made with Johns Hopkins International health for collaboration but there was never a go-ahead from the college

  14. Alumni Visiting Fellowship-1 • Didactic lectures • Clinics • Case Presentations • Bedside teaching • Grand Rounds • Memorandum of understanding yet to be signed by the college despite several attempts

  15. Alumni Visiting Fellowship-2 ICOMAA-NA still keen on: • Coordination with the College • Some funding • Continuing assessment of the program ALUMNUS: • Time and Teaching Materials • Cardiology Team in November 2014

Nigeria Collective Academy • An Internet Based Platform for Tertiary education in Nigeria led by Prof. Famuyiwa • Internet Based Portal for Teaching/Learning • Disciplines in Arts, Humanities and Sciences with Initial focus on Medical education • Request for ICOMAA involvement • Worked with the team till deferred. • Next is a similar venture with the college

  17. The Way Forward • Active participation in ICOMAA-NA • Volunteer to serve in Exco • Volunteer to serve on Coordination committees for the Alumni Visiting Fellowship and other ventures • Volunteer to share your expertise as a visiting Professor • Support all our plans and efforts financially
