  1. National Board CertificationEarly Adolescent though Young Adult Physical Education (EAYA PE) or Health Jerry Maher EAYA P.E.

  2. Why Do National Boards? • Money ?!?!?!? (Depends on budget cuts – was $5k for all, $10k for title I schools). If continue stipends, return on investment (25 – 30K for a grad. Degree to make an extra 6-7k a year or around 3K to make 5 + a year). • One of two ways to complete state certification (Pro. Cert. or Nat. Boards). • Valid in most states. Want to teach in Texas or Hawaii (you can if they accept NBPTS)? • Clock hours/credits (not the easy way). • Want to be a more reflective teacher. • Resume builder. • State’s plans for salary schedule and requirements down the road.

  3. Recipe for Success • Different writing style. • Organization is vital - great lesson plans tied to assessment and objectives/goals = great results. • Plan to sign up for support group. • Take One! • Record early and often! Figure out sound issues in gym open area.

  4. What to expect • Between 200-400 hours (2 middle school sports seasons or 1 H.S. worth of time; less than one full-time quarter of college). • Easier than Grad. Degree (most). • Confusion, stress, anger…(at times) – Attitude is everything! • Conditional loan? ($500 - $1,000 out of pocket).

  5. Requirements • Entry One (video): Progression through a lesson/unit – intro, activities, closure. How does it tie into objectives; scope & sequence. • Entry Two: Student assessments (2 & 2). How used to adjust teaching. • Entry Three: (Take One) Positive learning environment. • Entry Four: Documented accomplishments – be prepared to show how continued education, community involvement/communication, and leadership contribute to student learning/academic performance (think grades/test scores). Coaching is hard to prove. Can start summer before. • Test – 6 parts, about 4 hrs.

  6. Why not? • Lazy? • Don’t care? • Doesn’t apply to you. • Money going away! • Thought of it angers you. Excuses are like noses…

  7. Would I do it again? ????????? $$$$$$$$$$?????????
