High School Graduation Requirements • FSUSD Graduation Requirements • 230 credits for graduation • A, B, C and D grades only • CSU/UC a-g Requirements • Students must earn grades of C or higher both semesters • Semester grades are permanently recorded on transcripts at the end of each semester. • Grade Point Average is an important factor in athletic eligibility. • Progress Report grades count for eligibility

High School Success—Academics • Progress reports are issued every six weeks to inform parents about student progress • call teachers regarding areas of concern • Semester grades are permanently recorded on transcripts at the end of each semester • Many teachers post grades on Parent Portal and weekly progress reports are also available • Teachers are available by email/phone

High School Success—Academics • Daily attendance and punctuality is crucial to academic success • Organization is important • Binders, Backpacks, Academic Planners, etc • All freshmen receive an academic planner • Students should record assignments and due dates in their planner daily for each class • Parents are encouraged to check their student’s planner regularly

  5. High School Success—Academics • Homework area and time should be established • Interruptions should be kept to a minimum during the established time • Parents are encouraged to review/ask students about their work • Don’t be afraid to ask questions even if you are unsure of the content

  6. High School Success—Social/Emotional Health • Common teen social/emotional issues • “Drama” • Relationships • Friendships • Bullying • Cyber-bullying • Social networking • Gossiping

  7. High School Success—Getting Involved • Encourage your student to get involved at school: • Clubs • Athletics • Band • Leadership • Community Service • Participate in school events—football games and rallies

Academic and Personal/Social Supports • Academic Planner • All freshmen receive an academic planner to write down assignment, tests, quizzes and projects • Weekly Progress Reports (available upon request) • School After School • Every Monday and Thursday from 3-4pm • Students can get help in any course • Many teachers also make themselves available to help students during the school day (i.e. at lunch) • Tutorial • Library • Open daily before school, during lunch and after school
