  2. Epigenetics • One more note on how information is passed between generations • An eye cell has the same DNA as a liver cell • Some DNA in each cell is packed away, not expressed

  3. Epigenetics • DNA can be partially packed away too • The cell does this by methylating the DNA • Adding CH3 groups • This methylation of DNA can be passed between generations

  4. Epigenetics • Example: • Arabidopsis • Stressed mother produced offspring who responded to stress for several generations even though they were ok
