  16. B. Father‘s Encounter with Christianity • Father‘s uncle was healed through the prayer of Christian missionaries. • Father‘s family converted to Christianity (Presbytarians) in 1930. • Why should the LSA have roots in both oriental religion and Christianity? In order to reconcile/unify Oriental and Western Thought. • Dr. Flasche (German Theologian): „Rev. Moon‘s Unification Theology has the potential to bridge the gap between East and West. He may be remembered as the Luther of the 20th century.“

  17. B. Father‘s Encounter with Christianity • Father studied the Bible from 12 years on. • He prayed to God for more wisdom than Solomon, greater love than Jesus and greater faith than St. Paul. • He discovered that Christianity is the core of all religions. • Father taught Sunday School at age 15.

  18. C. Encounter with Jesus April 17, 1935 (Easter Day) • During Father‘s prayer Jesus appeared and explained: „My mission is to build the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth is not yet accomplished. You are chosen to complete this mission!“ • Father rejected initially, but later gives his promise to Jesus and God. • His life changed completely and he became very serious. • Thus, he started his QUEST FOR TRUTH (9 years) • Speech at the high school graduation ceremony (March 1938) • Studied at KyeongSeong (Seoul)

  19. C. Encounter with Jesus April 17, 1935 (Easter Day)

  20. D. Discovering the Principle The Crown of Glory When I doubt people, I feel pain. When I judge people, it is unbearable. When I hate people, there is no value to my existence. Yet if I believe, I am deceived. If I love, I am betrayed. Suffering and grieving tonight, my head in my hands Am I wrong? Yes, I am wrong. Even though we are deceived, still believe. Though we are betrayed, still forgive. Love completely even those who hate you. Wipe your tears away and welcome with a smile Those who know nothing but deceit And those who betray without regret. Oh Master! The pain of loving! Look at my hands. Place your hand on my chest. My heart is bursting, such agony! But when I loved those who acted against me I brought victory. If you have done the same thing, I will give you the crown of glory. Sun Myung Moon (1936)

  21. D. Discovering the Principle • Nine years of searching the Principle (1935-1945) • Father prayed walking along the Han-River or while walking on a mountain, desperately struggling to discover the TRUTH. • When he mediated about Jesus and God‘s situation he just could not keep from weeping. Sometimes in the morning his clothes were soaking wet from crying all night. • Sometimes his face was so swollen from crying that even his neighbours could not recognise who he is.

  22. D. Discovering the Principle 2. Father‘s Questions to God • „Heavenly Father, show me how to save the world.“ • „If you are God, what is your intention? What is your purpose? What is your Will? What is man? What is the relationship between you and man?“ • Heavenly Father replied: „The Parent-Child-Relationship!“

  23. D. Discovering the Principle 2. Father‘s Questions to God • „How was the parent-child-relationship destroyed?“ • „Was it Satan? Who created Satan? Why did Satan become Satan?“ • „If you are almighty, how can you allow evil to exist? Why can‘t you destroy evil? Are you an incapable God? Why, why, why?“ • „Who is responsible to solve the problem of evil? God, the Messiah?“ • „Why did Jesus not create the Kingdom of Heaven?“

  24. D. Discovering the Principle 3. Learning from Experience • Living in a boarding house (1/3), then a lodging house (2/3). • Serving the Poor (=preparation and practice for future witnessing). • Loving the people, shedding tears for the nation. • Begging to understand a beggar‘s heart. • Living in the slums. • Coal mining (=most difficult manual work). • Visiting bar maids in Seoul. (Father avoided temptation of women by dressing himself poor and dirty.)

  25. D. Discovering the Principle 4. Preparation for Witnessing • Witnessing for 3 years (in a park in Seoul). • Street preaching at a train station (Father was so serious and desperate that people got afraid and ran away). • Friends and teachers also got afraid of Father. He had to learn in front of a mirror how to smile again. (Being Messiah also means to be a mediator between God and man.) • Engagement in the Anti-Japanese Movement. (Someone who cannot love his own country is not fit to love God and humanity.)

  26. E. Studying in Japan

  27. E. Studying in Japan • Father‘s Determination to go to Japan (1941-1943) • Departue to Japan: Kyeong-Seong 7h by train to Pusan  by ship to Tokyo (Course in Electrical Engineering at Waseda University) • Father shedding tears in the train on the way to Japan. • Old Japanese lady was trying to comfort him. (March 31, 1941) • Not humanistic or selfish tears but tears of love and concern for God and country: „I prayed to God to protect Korea!“ Main purpose of going to Japan: Not to study electrical engineering but to fulfill God‘s expectation to prepare for his mission to save humankind.

  28. E. Studying in Japan 2. Father‘s Activities in Japan (1941-1943) • Search for the Principle – The Fall and Human Responsibility was most difficult to discover. • Training, study Bible and philosophical books – Father read simultaneously Korean, Japanese & English translations of the Bible. They looked worn out, with red marks on every page and full of comments and reflections. • Engagement in the anti-Japanese undergorund movement – Acquaintance with Duk Moon Eom, Korean student, and Ku Kim, head of the exile government in Shanghai. Interrogated by the police almost every month. • Debating with Communist students.

  29. E. Studying in Japan 3. Father Trained Himself • Father experienced everything from the lowest to the highest standard of life, throughout all levels of society. • He confronted a group leader of the factory for exploiting workers. • He studied in a noisy factory and in a railroad yard to improve his concentration ability. • He slept outdoors, wrapped in newspaper during winter. • Father did not buy new clothes for himself until he was 30 years old. • Father was always hungry until he was 30 years old. • He held anti-draft rallies, singing with a loud voice to encourage people. This lifestyle stimulated Father to always stretch the limits of human experience and capacity.

  30. E. Studying in Japan 4. Kindness Remembered • Impartial treatment in Japan – Most Japanese did not treat Koreans well during the occupation, but the lady who was the landlord of Father‘s lodging house treated Father impartially. In 1965 (over 20 years later) Father visited her and gave her a gift of $30. b) Selling coal – Father delivered coal to a housewife. She paid $1 more than agreed. Father cried because of this act of kindness. „After you do something good for others, FORGET about it. But if you are treated well, NEVER FORGET!“ – Father Remembering that, Father always tries to give more than people expect for their work.

  31. F. Returning Home & The End of WW II 1. Return to Korea (1943) • Graduation at Waseda, September 30, 1943. Return to Korea: October, 1943. • Scheduled ship torpedoed & sunk. Almost everyone died. • Father‘s mother shocked, almost went crazy. Run 8 km, lost her shoes. (Father realized the depth of mother‘s love.) • Father however, did not board the ship. Why? God‘s interference: Before Father boarded his feet got heavy – stuck to the ground. Premonition of danger. • He went to Fujijama-san with some friends instead and boarded the next ship, arriving safely in Korea. Father always risked his life for God‘s sake, yet Heavenly Father miraculously protected him in dangerious situations without fail!

  32. F. Returning Home & The End of WW II 2. First Prison Term (1944) • Early 1944: Employment as electrical engineer at Kashima-Gumi. • Oct 1944: Arrested by Kyeong-gi Do police due to Father‘s anti-Japanese activities in Japan. • Father was tortured and interrogated for names of his comrades. He never revealed any name. • Torture methods applied to Father: Pouring water down the throat / A square stick inside the knees / electric shocks / hanging in the air. • They searched Father‘s apartment and found Father‘s notebook with the names of his friends. • Feb 1945: Release. (Father‘s stool was bloody for a year due to internal injuries.)

  33. F. Returning Home & The End of WW II 3. End of WW II (1945) • Spring 1945: Father predicts the end of the war. • August 15, 1945: End of World War II • Situation for 1 million Japanese in Korea very dangerous: revenge! • Father hid many Japanese and sent them back safely to Japan. Father told to a relative: „Persevere for a few more months. In May, Germany will surrender. In August, Japan will surrender!“ Father taught to love the enemy: „Never again beat those who have lost their sovereignty. If you take revenge, God will punish you!“

  34. F. Returning Home & The End of WW II 4. Discorvering the Truth about the Fall (1945) • Severe battle against Satan: The Principle is the culmination of Father‘s battle against and final victory over Satan. • 40 day trial: After Father discovered the Principle, the spirit world initially refused to accept. Father never gave up persuading them. During this period even God kept silent. • The saints did not want to accept the Principle of the Human Portion of Responsibility, since they did not want to admit their failures. • After 40 days: God acknowledged the Principle and Father could thus start the Providence on Earth! Father „If you fight Satan directly, your bones will be crushed! (…) How can you fight against an enemy who has no definite shape, but who comes like dark waves of concentrated hatred over you?“

  35. F. Returning Home & The End of WW II 5. Second Prison Term (1945) • October 1945  „Return to North Korea!“ (revelation) • Korea was divided into N & S after WW II. • Father returned to his home in N-Korea. As he used S-Korean money, he and another relative became suspects. Both were thrown into jail. • Father was released. (The chief of police happened to be Father‘s teacher at elementary school…)

After the Fall, Satan seized the Right of Parents and the Right of Kingship from Adam and Eve. In order to regain and restore the Right of Parents and the Right of King of kings, Father must pay the price: torture and martyrdom.

  49. G. The First 7-Year Course Father‘s Course of Subjugating Satan • In order to liberate all of mankind who are captured in Satan‘s prison camp, Father has to pay the price: torture and martyrdom. • After paying the price Father should receive a permission from Satan (certificate of a signed agreement) in which Satan gives up the Right of Parents, the Right of the King of kings and the Right of Dominion over all of humankind to Father. • The most wicked torturer confessed and repented to Father! By restoring the most evil torturer and winning 12 disciples, Father can subjugate Satan, the archangel, as the Messiah.
