  1. Issues on a new evaluation for functionally distributed network architecture • 16thNGN-WG • TTC • Kentaro Ogawa(NTT) • E-mail: ogawa.kentaro@lab.ntt.co.jp • TEL: +81-422-59-3886 • FAX: +81-422-59-4549

  2. Background • ◆ Testing on functionally distributed network architecture led by TTC is underway and focused mainly on the “Architecture” and “Functionality”. • ◆ TTA proposed to collaborate on a new evaluation for “Scalability” and “Performance” of functionally distributed network architecture at the 15th NGN-WG meeting. • ◆ In order to begin the new evaluation, we must clarify issues and discuss a concrete way to conduct the evaluation.

  3. Overview of the evaluation plan • Conduct a simulation study on the scalability and performance of functionally distributed network architecture. • Prepare test cases for both cases and CJK can conduct the test cooperatively based on the test cases. • Test will consist of three scenarios. • Phase 1: Testing based on the simulator only • Phase 2: Testing based on the mix of simulator and actual CE/FE/SE involvement • Phase 3: Testing based on the actual CE/FE/SE only • Simulator can be cooperatively developed among CJK

  4. Issues to be clarified • Evaluation items should be clarified. • Scalability • Should be clarified: Network construction costs, Number of steps of network (re)configuration, Number of entities required to add new services/functions, User capacity per number of entities, Amount of information to be managed. • Performance • Should be clarified: Time to stable state of networks, Time to recovery from link/entity failure, Communication delay of configuration/notification/redirection between entities. • Other evaluation items are appreciated. • Evaluation environment should be clarified. • Making a choice of feasible evaluation items. • Coverage region of the simulator for evaluation items. • Comparison with existing networks. (Target network size: over 10000 FEs) • Simulator implementation. (making original SW or diverting commercial SW) • Platform, performance, number of machines and location for the simulator. • Test schedule
