Action Plan 2010 AGRICULTURE POLICY AND INSTITUTIONAL STRENGTHENING • Develop a comprehensive Agricultural Policy and Action Plan for MAF (2010 to 2013). • Update the agricultural sector study prepared by llCA in 1995. • Prepare a strategy for the banana sector. • Provide Training for Ministry personnel in project management cycle, that is, formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects (July 2010)

Action Plan 2010 LIVESTOCK SECTOR: • Cooperate and collaborate with the National Cattle Sweep. • Carry out training in the updating and use of the livestock Registry. • Provide the necessary technical support for the declaration of Belize free of Newcastle Disease • Provide technical support and training for the improvement of quality control of processing plants for beef, poultry and pork to meet export requirements (HACCP)

  4. Action Plan 2010 • SUPPORT THE AGRICULTURAL EXPORT PROGRAMME • Conduct training in marketing and export of agricultural products (research and marketing information). • Provide technical support for the establishment of export programmes for non-traditional and value added agricultural products. • Provide technical assistance for the reduction of postharvest losses in selected commodities.

  5. Action Plan 2010 • INTEGRATED FARMING SYSTEM AND PERI-URBAN AGRICULTURE • Provide technical support for the establishment of new biodigesters in the context of IFS. • Provide technical assistance and training in protective covered structure technology. • Establish small garden demonstrations in strategic peri-urban areas.

  6. Action Plan 2010 • OTHER AREAS OF INTERVENTION • Coordinate and Support the activities of the bio-safety council. • Capacity building of Youth in Leadership roles in Agriculture (July 2010). • Provide technical cooperation in replicating RedSICTA project in other districts.
