  1. Fourth Grade News Mrs. Howd Room 133 September 19th, 2014 News & Notes We will be finishing up our review unit on multiplication and division facts early next week. I will continue to give students multiplication and division timed tests twice a week for a while. Please go over the facts your child is having difficulty with. Our next unit of study is titled, “Solving Multiplication and Division Word Problems.” In language arts this week we studied expository text. The students identified and used different text features such as maps, charts, photographs, graphs, etc. to help them to understand more deeply what they are reading. Talk to your child about some of the interesting facts they’ve learned during IDR this week. In science this week we finished observing our mock rocks and writing our observations. We also discussed and wrote down the science terms we’ve learned so far. We began observing minerals on Thursday. Ask your child if they can tell you the difference between a rock and a mineral. MOCK ROCK TERMS QUIZ ON MONDAY. Your child should study the 10 terms in their science notebook. The University of MN Raptor Center hosted a free program for our students at McAuliffe on Friday during the school day. This is a neat opportunity for students to see and learn about raptors up close. Enjoy your weekend! Mrs. Howd Daily Schedule Monday- Day 3: Music and P.E.
