  4. SSC Composition: Elementary Any school which has two or more grades in the K-8 grade span: 10 member minimum No maximum but must ensure parity One half staff and one half parents/community members Staff includes: principal, majority of classroom teachers, other staff

  5. SSC Composition: Secondary 12 member minimum No maximum but must ensure parity One half staff, one fourth parents/community, and one fourth students elected by their peers Staff includes: principal, majority of classroom teachers, other staff “A School Site council, at the middle school level may, but is not required to, include pupil representation.” [EC, Section (33133)]

  7. What is a Classroom Teacher? SSC Elections • Teacher that has a roster and can give out grades • A teacher who splits time between classroom teacher and resource teacher can be elected as classroom teacher

SSC Elections Recordkeeping • Results and process of the election is maintained in the SSC binder • Include the following information: Call to Nominations Process – Date distributed, closed Elections Process – Date conducted, conducted via mailing or at Back to School Night, etc… Positions open for election Record of Nominees and number of votes each received Best Practices require a site to keep all Election Documentation including Final Tally Sheets (Compliance)

Original SSC Roster Due 11/1/13 to MAR Department • Excel Document with tabbed pages • Identify the SSC Chair and DAC Representative • Complete the roster provided by MAR in Excel • Submit the roster with original signatures to MAR • The meeting dates should run from October/November through the following October/November • Keep a copy of the original roster in SSC Binder • Create a copy of the SSC roster that omits SSC member addresses and phone numbers to be available to the public • Membership is from 11/1 to 10/31 of the following year.

Title I Requirements It is the Principal’s Responsibility to Conduct the Title I Parent Involvement Meeting • Must be Held Annually • Informs Parents of Schools Participation in Title I Programs • Explains Title I Requirements • Explains Parental Rights to Involvement in Title I Programs • Reviews Schools Student Achievement Data and Determine if Title I Funded Supports are Effective • Must be Scheduled Early in School Year at Place and Time Convenient to Parents • Must Send Verification to MAR upon Completion
