Diversity Component • Must complete 20 or more hours in an educational setting with a diverse student population • COE definition of a diverse student population… • A diverse field experience setting is one that meets or exceeds enrollment in at least TWO of the following four categories: • English Language Learners (10%) • Students of Color (20%) • Students from Low Income Families (20%) • Students with Disabilities (5% or at least one student with a disability in a teaching/instructional setting.)

  3. Diversity Option 1 • Design your own experience • Choose from… • Chicago trip • Tutoring at WACC or Unity Center • CDM workshops at BJHS • Self Placement

  4. Diversity Option 1 Students • Monday (sect 1) • Abbott • Benjamin • Leone • Quinn • Wednesday (sect 2) • Medema • Murphy • O’Connor • Prendergast • Serritella • Sharp

  5. Diversity Option 2 • 7 week field experience at Unity Community Center in conjunction with CDM • Involves design and implementation of curriculum • 4-6 p.m. every other Tuesday at Unity Community Center (north Normal)

  7. Curriculum Component • Involves assisting a local science teacher with the design (and possible implementation) of science curricula • Assignments will be given as approval is received from teachers/school • Students eligible to combine Components 1 & 2 – M. Bagby, A. Dawson, & C. Simonson
