  4. Class Subjects • These subjects will receive numerical grades: • Reading • Language Arts • Math • Science • Social Studies • These subjects will receive an E, S, N or U: • Handwriting • P.E. • Music • Conduct • Work Habits • Health

Reading • Basal Readers • Daily Five – Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Writing and Word Work • Fluency Folders • Reading Homework– Monday thru Friday nights and one weekend night, 15 minutes, assignment sheet for students to complete based on a reading skill, parent signature once a week • TPRI (Texas Primary Reading Inventory)- Formal Reading Assessment given at the beginning, middle, and end of the year • District Goal – 90 words per minute on an on-grade level passage with mastery of comprehension

Language Arts • English: • DLR (Daily Language Review) Discussed and corrected daily, comes home on Thursday, quiz on Friday • Spelling: • Pre-test – given on Monday • List – focus on phonetic pattern, may have regular or challenge list • Test – given on Friday • Writing: • Writing Workshop –process writing format of pre-writing, drafting, revision, and sharing

  7. Math Math • Hands-On Manipulatives • Textbooks—Envisions and Investigations • Math Workshop • Basic Addition and Subtraction facts—masteryof facts to 20 • Homework – Tuesday night

  8. Science • Units of Study: • Properties of Matter and Energy • Force, Motion and Energy • Earth Cycles and Systems • Tundra Biome • Grassland Biome • Earth and Its Resources • Science Lab– hands-on experiments

  9. Social Studies • Units of Study: • Class Community and Good Citizenship • Constitution Week • Maps and Globes • Landforms • Our Physical Environment • Local Community and Government • State Community and Government • National Community and Government • Economics • Science, Technology, and Society • Patriotic Celebrations • Weekly Map Practice

  10. Learning Environment • Scholarly Behaviors • Conduct • Work Habits

  11. Tardiness • School starts at 8:10 A.M. • If you come to school after 8:10, please walk your child into the school office and they will be given a pass to class. • If you are tardy three times, the school will contact parents. Three tardies equals one absence.

  12. Homework • Reading– 15 minutes, Monday thru Friday • Spelling – list comes home Monday on newsletter, test on Friday • Math– Tuesday Night • Language Arts– graded DLR paper comes home Thursday, quiz on Friday
