  3. Loss of confidence…… • You may not like the way you look any more due to: wrinkles grey hair false teeth memory loss

  4. Immobility • You may need to rely on others • Unable to get out to meet friends • Unable to attend appointments without having to rely on others

  5. Loneliness • Your work offered a social aspect • The loss of partners/friends due to death • Family have moved away • Restrictions due to living on a pension

  6. Dignity….. • To rely on others to get you up, dress you and wash you • Job may have given you a purpose • To have to ask for help

  7. Positive aspects • The transition from employment to retirement can seem daunting • There may be a feeling of having your personal, social, domestic and financial issues exposed • If these are recognised and approached in a positive way the prospects for an active and happy retirement can be increased

  8. More time to spend with family and friends • More time for recreation • Less stress • More time to go on holiday • More time to take up new hobbies • More time to fulfil ambitions • Some people may have more money

  9. Relieved from the stress of employment • Excited and happy • Less responsibility • More opportunities • Time to undertake voluntary work
