  1. Bell Ringer • Take 2 sheets of paper from the front of the room and get a yellow book from the shelf. Put the book under your seat. On one side of the paper create a web with words or phrases that come to mind when you think of the word health. HEALTH

  3. Book Activity • Draw a triangle on your blank sheet • Read “Your Health Triangle” from page 6 to page 9 in your book • Fill in your triangle with the three health categories and a brief description

Measurement of Health Healthy Unhealthy Loss of Health and Wellness Improved Health and Wellness Premature Death High Level of Health Chronic disease Lack of energy inattention, minor aches and pains Free from aches and pains Moderate level of energy Optimal level of energy, feeling of well-being *Chronic disease: an ongoing condition or illness such as heart disease, obesity, and cancer*

Influences on Your Health • Heredity • All of the traits that were biologically passed on to you from your parents • Environment (physical environment, social environment, culture) • Sum of your surroundings including the physical places in which you live and the people who make up your world • Attitude • The way you view situations (optimists vs. pessimists) • Behavior • Choosing to avoid high risk behaviors • Media • Various methods for communicating information • Technology • Such as radio, TV, and the internet

GOALS • S = SPECIFIC • Who, what, when, why, how? • M = MEASUREABLE • How will you know when you have accomplished your goal? • A = ATTAINABLE • Is your goal realistic? • R = RELEVANT • How does this fit into your life now? • T = TIME-BOUND • When will you achieve your goal? What is your deadline? Is it an appropriate deadline?

YOUR Measurement of Health • GOAL SETTING (Page 42-44) • Determine where you are right now on the measurement of health and put a line with a star and the date. • Think about where you want to be at the end of this school year and draw a line and write *GOAL*. • Determine short-term and long-term goals that will help you reach that ultimate goal. • Create an ACTION PLAN • Page 44- Developing an Action Plan
