  1. It’s New Year Again! Prosperous and Blessed Indeed Former things are passed away, behold, new things are come. Saying good bye to the old year and welcoming the New Year which brings with it lots of joy, happiness, hope, and all beautiful things and lovely new aspirations is what marks the New Year’s Eve. As the world grows another year older, this magical season illuminates the path of life towards a positive direction with a fresh mind and heart. New Year reflects the thought that there is always a hope for a better future and the end will lead to a new beginning with glee and laughter filled with many memorable moments celebrated together. Each New Year is a fresh and blank page of life which can be filled by you with words and pictures of opportunities and success. People usually dream of unfolding these new pages and begin a new chapter of their life which is blissful, cheerful and colourful. The New Year celebrations were first made during the 2000 BC according to the recorded history. In 45 BC, for the first time, the New Year was celebrated on the 01st of January. From that time on till today people from different parts of the world celebrate the arrival of the New Year in diverse ways which keep the citizens spell bound and some events even make the jaw lose and fall down. Especially, the fireworks in Sydney and the countdown in the US where the ball starts falling from a tall building at 11:59 and hits the ground at exactly 00.00 hours, marking the fresh start of a New Year. The whole world waits eagerly to celebrate the New Year which include family gatherings, feasting, gift exchanges, social gatherings, during which the participants dance, eat lavishly, consume alcoholic beverages, and/or watch or light fireworks, make New Year’s resolutions, attend church services calling one’s friends and family. New Year is in fact, the most widely celebrated public holiday. New Year was traditionally a religious feast, but since the 1900s they have become an occasion to celebrate the night of December 31st, called the New Year’s Eve. In many countries around the world, people start the New Year’s Eve is celebrations at evening which generally go on past mid-night into New Year’s Day, i.e. January 01st. families and relatives switch off the lights at mid-night, after which they light up the candles on the New Year Cake and cut it to welcome the New Year. This is deemed to bring luck, success and joy to the family throughout the year. The people all over will make some time out of their busy schedules on this auspicious day to thank god for protecting them through the past year and giving the hope of a new year ahead. They spend time with their family and friends who would otherwise be in different places far from each other. It has actually become a tradition to spend this occasion together with loved ones. Lavish food forms a part of this grand get-togethers and a cake is baked to the New Year, with love, kisses, and parties among the customs. It is a pure family time with traditional meals where eating cake has become a symbol of higher income, a higher position, the growth of children, the promise of a better year. It is considered good luck to eat it during the New Year. A cake will be included in the New Year celebrations by almost everyone in order to impress the guests and unlike in the previous years, cakes have been seen on the tables of even the ordinary people. No feast or occasion becomes complete without a cake; all the items on the menu on one side and the yummy and delicious flavourful cake on the other, people at the party will definitely vote for the cake for its artistic designs and fun filled flavours. Cake has a connecting function as it brings people together. It is a delicacy that is always shared. On January 01st,

  2. immediately after the entering of the New Year at mid-night, the cake is cut and consumed in each household following a certain ritual. After enjoying the delicious meal and eating the smooth cake, people get themselves involved in entertainment usually enjoyed from the comfort of their home; they take local walks, or attend church services or go to the beach with family and friends. Many national and local communities and families established their own traditions for such celebrations. Few families may plan a visit to their favourite get- together spots like zoo parks, temples, hill stations or any other tourist destinations to make the celebrations even more memorable. A New Year renews the happiness and good tidings and the hope of a joyful spirit keeps glowing in the heart. It is a perfect time to set new goals, to dream new dreams, and hope for a better and bright future ahead.
