  2. Main information • Territory of district Bourgas - 7748 km2 • Forest areas are 340,590 hectares and occupy approximately 35% of the region • 312 179 ha (93%) of these areas are coated with forest;

  4. Statistics of forest fires in the region • From the data on forest fires in RDF Bourgas for the last 14 years, be seen, that they differ in number, and in area. There are, however, and two trends. The first is for a cyclic recurrence of years with peak forest fires, for example 2000 year are 32 322 decares burned, 2001 year- 42 594 decares. Followed by several years with very low values in area and number of the fires in the forests, 2002 are burned only 241decares forest areas in the entire Regional Forest Directorate. In the period 2002-2006 area of forest fires is from 241 – 1 479 decare. In 2008, peak with a emerges burned down 12 963 decares. Following several years of decline and peak again in 2012 with 23 049 decares burned forest territories. To a large extent this cyclical depends on atmospheric and weather conditions. The second trend to create new peaks in number of fires in the months of March-April and especially in recent years in the month of November to December.

PROJECT SUMMARY • Project title - Strandja /Yildiz the mountain is without fires • Lead Partner (name/country) – Regional Forest Directorate • Partners – State Forestry Kirklareli • Priority axis -Improvement the quality of life • Area of intervention - Protection of environment, nature and historical and cultural heritage • Duration (in months)12 • Total budget (in €)149 731,69 • The overall project objective is to improve the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources and to protect the natural, cultural and historical heritage by protecting the Strandja/Yildiz mountain from forest fires. All specific objectives will be achieved by the successful implementation of the planned project activities. The project is expected to contribute to the improvement of the implementation of the common responsibilities and activities for the protection of the forest ecosystems.

The development of common Strategy for forest fire prevention and fighting in the border region will contribute to the decreasing of the fire damages and the negative ecological impact on the environment. The Strategy will incorporate the strategic vision of the regional and local authorities, it will set a system for joint forest fire prevention and fighting, combined with concrete scheme for cross-border coordination and cooperation and will present the fire risk and the existing and planned facilities and infrastructure in relevant maps. The capacity and awareness will be improved by a number of trainings (including mobile school trainings of local persons and relevant stakeholders, responsible for forest firefighting) and PR campaign.

The strategy will be improved with a system for joint forest fire prevention and control, combined with a scheme for cross-border coordination and cooperation.   9. 4.Mobile school in Bulgaria.Voluntary units will organize mobile school where will train local peoples,users and owners of forest areas .Suitable car purchase for the purpose required which will be marked by all the parties with appropriate stickers - logo of the project(Bulgaria). 5. Mobile school in Turkey .Fire fighting groups for effective and safety work needs training on tactics and technique of suppression and extinguishing forest fires, the used tools, equipment and the issues related to art of safety. This training will be carried out with the aid of mobile school, and for this purpose be purchased a suitable car, marked with the logo of the project (Turkey) 6. Create a Internet page of the project. Partners will assign the elaboration of the website project which will promote the activities and results. Outside company which organize RP campaign will prepare website which will maintain with IT specialists appointed external experts for the project (Bulgaria / Turkey).

  10. 7.Informational two day workshop on good practices in combating forest fires.During the day several lectors will give presentations on best practices in fighting forest fires. It will create working groups to identify the main issues on certain key themes: best practices for planning fire management, organization and coordination for fire fighting them among the local institutions.   11. 9.Campaign with young generation in Turkey. Work with younger generation will start in Turkey with the World Day of the forest - 21 mart and will continue with Day of the forest in Turkey - March 22 and will run under the motto "Forest for the Future". By presentations on the topics "Fire danger in forests and fire behavior" and "Types of forest fires and to extinguish their actions".Together with the Red Crescent will be given an open class for first aid in case of fire.Will be given books and other materials will be given to nature conservation. 10. Work with the younger generation will continue in Bulgaria under the motto "Forest for the Future" and will begin with the opening of "Forest Week" 7- 11 April 2014 During the awareness campaign in two schools and a Professional High School by presentations on the following topics: "Fire danger in forests and fire behavior" and "Types of forest fires and to extinguish their actions. Will be organized lesson in giving first aid together with representatives of the Bulgarian Red Cross - Bourgas. The"Week of the Forest “will be presented a dramatization of the story "Fire in the Forest" by children with eco-friendly choice in kindergarden.It will be an exhibition of children's drawings.Children will be rewarded with children's books and other materials to environmental conservation.

  12. 11.PR - campaign in Bulgaria. Will be prepared and distributed leaflets, brochures, banners, posters and other promotional materials. 12.PR - campaign in Turkey.Specialist "Public Relations" will be carry out the campaign by which will prepare and submit information media. 13.Project management.Project management will organize four working meetings, two in Bulgaria and Turkey. Project team will also communicate by phone, fax and Internet External experts will be hired to assist in the implementation of the project. 14.Final conference.Brief conference will be organized,two presentations and will be countersigned memorandum of cooperation at regional level.
