  2. English as a Second Language Introduced a new curriculum at both the elementary and secondary levels REACH – Elementary INSIDE – Middle School EDGE/Journeys – High School

  3. Literacy by Design EL strategies are built into this program to assist teachers in meeting the literacy needs of the EL learners. TIER 2 Intervention by Design

  4. ACCESS • The ACCESS test replaces the TEAE and MNSolom used in the past to determine English language acquisition and AMAO status • New WIDA standard adopted in Minnesota Focus on the development of content area vocabulary (science, social studies, language arts and math) so that students will be successful in the general education curriculum • ACCESS also places students at a defined English language placement Level 1 – Level 6 which helps determine proficiency and continued need for service.

  5. Inver Grove Heights District Handbook • A district handbook was completed and has been submitted to MDE as part of a desk audit completed this year.

  6. Secondary ReadingSIMLEY • Unique Learning Systems • Language! • Lexia • Specific Skills (SRA) • FUSION Placement determined by student data

  7. Secondary Reading IGHMS • Unique Learning Systems • Language! • READ 180 • Journeys (Inclusion)

  8. Secondary Math • Do the Math • Navigator Worked closely with math coach to improve math instruction to special ed. students both with intervention strategies AND teaching techniques.

  9. RtI in the Secondary Schools Simley – Journeys – Lit Skills for grades 9 and 10 IGHMS – iReading at each grade level – SOAR to Success

RtI in the Elementary Schools Intervention maps have been the next step in determining strategies to use with students who struggle. • Intervention of Design in TIER 2 • Orton Gillingham in TIER 3 • Number Worlds – Math TIER 2, Title and special ed. Next determining materials specific to the area of weakness – PA, Phonics, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Fluency

  11. Focus for Future • Increased/continued attention to the needs of English Learners • Increasing expertise of staff in determining appropriate interventions for students based on data • Development of true problem solving teams • Paraprofessional training • TIER 2 Interventions for PBIS
