Korea Rail Network Authority Overview of Korea’s High Speed Rail development
Korea Rail Network Authority Overview of Korea’s High Speed Rail development • April. 2004. - The 1st phase of 300km/h Gyeongbu high speed rail (Seoul ~ Dongdaegu) • Nov. 2010. - The 2nd phase of 300km/h Gyeongbu high speed rail (Dongdaegu ~ Busan) • Dec. 2014. • - Two additional high speed rail network (350km/h) • (Honam & Seoul metropolitan high speed rail)
HEMU-430X ICE Korea Rail Network Authority Background of Development TGV • World’s high speed railway market : 300km/h → 350km/h → 400km/h → ???km/h • To improve the speed : rolling stock & catenary system • 400km/h Next-Generation high speed train (HEMU-430X) : KRNA ↔ KRRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute)
Target Korea Rail Network Authority Definition of development targets Development of 400km/h catenary design technologies • The Design Criteria • The Design Program to build the system - basic design on the system - catenary system specification and the detail design • Design Program to design 400km/h Catenary system - DeCATS400(Detail design of high speed catenary system 400km/h) Overlap section Neutral section
Target Korea Rail Network Authority Definition of development targets Development of core component for catenary system • 400km/h Catenary system requires : - tension increasing → contact wire & messenger wire change • Core component should be developed - tensioning device, fitting, movable bracket, dropper and steady arm. etc. • Interface with the rolling stock - allowable uplift force should be increased - system height, static and dynamic characteristic of steady arm. etc. HEMU-430X Pantograph modeling
Target Korea Rail Network Authority Definition of development targets Performance assessment of developed material and DB configuration • Performance of core components and parts of 400km/h catenary system - identify the durability - configure the data base on electrical properties • Evaluating measured values • Verifying through the simulation • Applying to the other projects fitting Mast and bracket
Target Korea Rail Network Authority Definition of development targets Installation, test and verification of test track • Actual car test is the best method for final performance assessment of the developed catenary system - install separate test bed - upgrade existing high speed rail to 400km/h level • Test bed for static and dynamic test in KRRI • Plan to install a 56km-long test bed on Honam high speed rail • Test run for speed increase (on the 2nd phase of Gyeongbu high speed rail) - verify the rolling stock performance and dynamic characteristics → Test bed in KRRI
DeCATS400 Korea Rail Network Authority Major accomplishment of development Development of Design Program • KRNA succeeded in independently developing a DeCATS400 - applicable, convenient and appropriate to 400km/h Catenary parameter • Check point - the plural number of designers to perform effective, rapid and precise design. <System Structure> <DeCATS400 Mounting diagram on screen> <Data base Structure>
Key point Korea Rail Network Authority Major accomplishment of development Development of core parts • Enhanced strength, conductivity and Easily manufactured • Durable to withstand the design load and Convenient for fabrication • Test at independent international test agent - ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) - KOLAS (Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme). etc. <Development of core parts>
Process of Contact wire (trial manufacture) Korea Rail Network Authority Major accomplishment of development Development of core parts Alloy melting Raw materials 1250℃ Cu-Mg-Fe-P trial manufacture Adding element (Cr, Zr, Mg, FeP .etc.) Molten material treatment Tension test Billet casting Extrudable material (28mmΦ) Wire drawing (150mm2)
Key point Korea Rail Network Authority Tensile Strength Conductivity (IACS %) Conductivity Tensile Strength (MPa) 0.40~0.45 wt.% Mg 0.649 0.083 Wt.% Mg Major accomplishment of development Development of test equipment • Test equipment to prove and verify the core parts independently was developed. • Performance tests of trial manufactured core parts. <Fabrication of test equipment> <Various test results (Creep, Strength, Conductivity etc)>
3 step of test Korea Rail Network Authority Major accomplishment of development Installation of test bed, test and verification • Test track has been installed at KRRI. - verify the static & dynamic characteristics of catenary system & rolling stock • The speed increase test on 2nd phase of Gyeongbu high speed rail. - 2 days per week for a month from Nov 29 till Feb 3, 2013 • A test bed installation on Honam high speed rail.
Speed increase test Korea Rail Network Authority Major accomplishment of development Installation of test bed, test and verification • Increasing the speed from 350km/h to 400km/h by 10km/h interval. • The max and min contact force (UIC code). • Video monitoring. <20Hz Low pass Filter at 380km/h> <Variation of mean contact force> <Speed and current graph at 401㎞/h > <381km/h Monitor screen>
Korea Rail Network Authority Conclusion • Full scale performance test - Verify the system stability and dynamic characteristics of developed material - From March 2014 on Honam high speed rail • Establishing the design & construction guideline for 400km/h catenary system • Providing a milestone in independently developing a 400km/h catenary system. • The data on R&D to be integrated in database • Enhance the competitiveness with core components so as to introduce our state-of-the-art catenary system to the global market.
