Target Korea Rail Network Authority Definition of development targets Development of core component for catenary system • 400km/h Catenary system requires : - tension increasing → contact wire & messenger wire change • Core component should be developed - tensioning device, fitting, movable bracket, dropper and steady arm. etc. • Interface with the rolling stock - allowable uplift force should be increased - system height, static and dynamic characteristic of steady arm. etc. HEMU-430X Pantograph modeling

Target Korea Rail Network Authority Definition of development targets Installation, test and verification of test track • Actual car test is the best method for final performance assessment of the developed catenary system - install separate test bed - upgrade existing high speed rail to 400km/h level • Test bed for static and dynamic test in KRRI • Plan to install a 56km-long test bed on Honam high speed rail • Test run for speed increase (on the 2nd phase of Gyeongbu high speed rail) - verify the rolling stock performance and dynamic characteristics → Test bed in KRRI

  19. 3 step of test Korea Rail Network Authority Major accomplishment of development Installation of test bed, test and verification • Test track has been installed at KRRI. - verify the static & dynamic characteristics of catenary system & rolling stock • The speed increase test on 2nd phase of Gyeongbu high speed rail. - 2 days per week for a month from Nov 29 till Feb 3, 2013 • A test bed installation on Honam high speed rail.

Korea Rail Network Authority Conclusion • Full scale performance test - Verify the system stability and dynamic characteristics of developed material - From March 2014 on Honam high speed rail • Establishing the design & construction guideline for 400km/h catenary system • Providing a milestone in independently developing a 400km/h catenary system. • The data on R&D to be integrated in database • Enhance the competitiveness with core components so as to introduce our state-of-the-art catenary system to the global market.
