  1. Infrastructure UpdateAs at 11th March 2009 • Remaining four plates now fitted to North shield wall • North & South walls and all galleries are considered complete • Uneven floor under spectrometer platform not serious; simple fix done • False floor for cooling channel is now levelled and surveyed and ready to receive equipment • False floor is considered complete • Rolling platforms (for steps II & III) are now at RAL and mounting holes are marked and drilled in floor. Next step is to bolt & grout fixed baseplates to floor (next two weeks) • Minor infrastructure painting and fireproofing jobs remain • Principal Contractor concerns over contractors’ safety attitude remain, but BPG have been asked to refresh safety training RAL term contracts are renewed anyway in September – clean start then hopefully

  2. Infrastructure update • Electrical: • Good progress with 2MVA upgrade: highly detailed proposal and layout completed by DL staff – heroic effort • Next step is to submit to Andy Dickenson, MICE’s route to Operations Dept, to agree implementation • Cost is around £75K, but thirty-week lead time still applies, so a worry • Aim to meet with Andy D in early April • Air conditioning, lighting, fire protection making steady progress – no disasters • PPS: • Mandatory accreditation to IEC61508 (the relevant safety framework) has begun • Meeting arranged with external consultancy and ISIS • Aim to have PPS all finished by late Summer

  3. Infrastructure update • General: • MICE Hall needs overall interior re-decoration, more for cleanliness during integration & running than for appearance • RAL (BPG + WFL) pays, plan to take ‘holiday’ in August so painters can have free reign • Noise level in R5.2 is more than twice level above which ear protection obligatory – potentially a serious problem • Chief culprit is the Linde He plant • Short term is enforced PPE-wearing • Longer term, Mike Courthold has been asked to present MICE Technical Board with options for siting the Linde compressor outside R5.2

  4. Decay solenoid • Rather provisional schedule, hot off the press: • Warm up – 2/2 • Downstream MLI – 5/2 • Pump down – 12/2 • Cooldown – 19/2 • Measurements – 26/2 • Fix quench protection, etc 12/3 • Warm up – 1/4 • Remove Beamstopper – 4/4 • Add upstream MLI – 4/4 • Pump down – 13/4 • Cooldown – 20/4 • Powering test – 28/4 • Proper schedule/plan in progress, suggestion TB meets to discuss Mon 2nd Feb – wider audience review later in Feb.
