  1. INFORMATION ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING IN KLAIPĖDA Vytautas Didysis gymnasium Klaipeda, Lithuania

  2. Huge advertisements reminding of global warming keep changing place all around the town: it's impossible to pretend you're unaware.

  3. Even though the town council financed adverts aren't that interesting and effective, it is still a step towards some bigger changes.

  4. Several different adverts about sorting waste (better or weaker) keep appearing in bus shelters. They offer phone numbers and websites where people can find more information on the issue. Some of the organizations offer competitions for children or simply try to shock and interest.

  5. "One person can't change the world. Two can." - a quote used in ecological adverts shown on MTV channel seems to be true: people living in the same district join communities to find more economical ways of using energy.

  6. Despite some negative opinions, alternative ways of producing energy are expanding. The council is planning the building of a new energetic park in the Baltic Sea.

  7. A couple of years ago special colourful containers for plastic, glass and paper waste have appeared in the sleeping districts, just as in the hottest spots in the town centre. After some active advertising, more people started using them in the right way. A little while ago containers for textile, electronics and used batteries appeared in the most popular supermarkets.

  8. Broadly advertising itself on public transport, newspapers, brochures, web and outside stands, the EEPA is a non-profit organization which organises integrated management of waste from electrical and electronic equipments. They collect used waste from both- commercial firms and simple residents of the town. www.epa.lt

  9. A couple of decades ago an ecological club "Zvejone" was founded in Klaipeda. People of different age participate in their activities: they organize all kinds of different and interesting events involving the town residents, promote "The day without a car", set up walking and bicycle tours following their objectives and promote their ideas all around the town. www.zvejone.lt

  10. While all the media is paying so much attention to ecological problems, business is also getting involved. One of the biggest supermarket chains "Iki" were the first to promote the use of ecological bags instead of plastic ones and actively participate in other ecological activities. For instance, they use ecological transport, store containers for used batteries and publish a monthly newspaper about environmental problems and their solutions.

  11. In Vytautas Didysis gymnasium, various information about global warming is constantly being spread as well.
