  15. Key Messages

  16. Key Messages • Despite advances in medicine, every procedure and surgery has risks. When seconds count, when medical emergencies or other complications occur unexpectedly, physician anesthesiologists draw on their comprehensive medical education, years of clinical training and experience to make critical decisions that can save lives before, during and after surgery.

  17. Key Messages • Nurse anesthetists play a valuable role on the Anesthesia Care Team but cannot replace a physician. Physician anesthesiologists complete nearly double the education and 10 times the clinical training of nurse anesthetists. There is no comparison.

  18. Key Messages • Physician anesthesiologists are dedicated to providing all patients, including our nation’s veterans, with safe, high-quality care and oppose any policies that eliminate physician-led, team-based care and may jeopardize patient safety.

  19. Messages in Action • Always refer to yourself as physician anesthesiologist • Focus on your response to emergencies or critical decisions you made to resolve emergencies • Emphasize quality of the care and the difference in your education and training • Share your personal “close call” story of When Seconds Count
