SustainableSchools Launch 7 March 2007 The Regional launch of the ‘Sustainable Schools’ initiative from the Department for Education and Skills was held at the Fraser Noble Hall, University of Leicester and was introduced by Jake Reynolds, Senior Advisor for Sustainable Development to the DfES. The aim of the event was to encourage partnership working between organisations, such as the LMLG, and schools to respond to the challenges of the Sustainable Schools Agenda. The event also celebrated the recent announcement that the EMESD group has been awarded UN status as a Regional Centre for Expertise in Education for Sustainable Development.

Beltane Spring Fair 17 March 2007, Belgrave Hall Display and Latin American craft workshop attended by 35 people Fair Trade Event for Councillors- 6 March 2007 This was an event held in the Lord Mayor’s Tea Room to celebrate the 5 anniversary of Leicester’s status as a Fair Trade City and show case the many organisations in the city that are involved in promoting fair trade. The LMLG had a stall, highlighting the value of Leicester’s link with Nicaragua as a vehicle for raising awareness and encouraging positive action to support fair trade.

Fairtrade Producers • Public talk at Trinity Life Church, Highfields (hosted by Leicester Advocating Fair Trade) • Workshop for 18 students of RE and Economics at City of Leicester College 8 & 9 March 2006 Janixce Florian from SOPPEXCCA and Felicity Butler from CECOCAFEN, the Fairtrade Coffee Trail Ecotourism project in Matagalpa in Leicester.
